Liquid Blue isn’t like other bands. Officially recognized as “The World’s Most Travelled Band” by the Guinness Book of Records, having visited more than 700 cities in over 125 countries, it has always been important to this leading dance band to celebrate diverse cultures and deliver a party vibe without having a negative impact on the environment.
With COP26 highlighting the climate crisis in 2021, in a similar spirit of global collaboration, Liquid Blue has worked hard to certify its green credentials. They recently took a bold step by attaining B-Corporation Certification, not as just another example of greenwashing, but with a very real determination to do good for the planet they’ve toured so avidly.
As part of its B-Corporation Certification, Liquid Blue was included as a Best for the World Honoree in the Governance category.
What is B-Corporation Certification?
From B-Corps website: “certified B Corporations are businesses that meet the highest standards of verified social and environmental performance, public transparency, and legal accountability to balance profit and purpose“
B-Corporations don’t pay lip service to social and environmental concerns. Instead, by applying for and obtaining this certification, organizations like Liquid Blue rise to the challenge of upholding peerless standards of ethical and environmental behavior.
With their Triple P framework – People, Profit, Planet – B-Corporation companies balance the sometimes misaligned incentives of treating their staff well, maximizing revenue, whilst protecting our fragile world and its ecosystems.
Other B-Corporation certificated businesses include clothing retailer Patagonia, Danone, Coutts Bank, ad agency Wieden + Kennedy and Illy Coffee. Liquid Blue is the first entertainment provider to obtain this certification.
To gain certification, applicants have their entire social and environmental impact assessed. This includes their effect upon employees, community, environment, and customers.
The process can take up to 10 months to complete and demonstrates a real commitment to remaining a socially and environmentally conscious business.
How Does Liquid Blue Further Demonstrate its Green Credentials?
Liquid Blue is an active participant in the 1% for the Planet scheme, whereby businesses commit to paying a minimum of 1% of all gross sales towards green ventures. By partnering with Carbonfund, a commitment the band made back in 2009, the band ensures all their international flights are offset in terms of environmental impact.
As a B-Corp Certified company, Liquid Blue, founded in 1996 by environmental activist and bestselling author Scott Stephens, aims always to be carbon neutral, despite its full, global touring schedule. The band considers its green credentials paramount to its identity. In this way, the band aims to show the way for other touring artists whose carbon footprint can be considerable.
